HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Play at Plate Gives Birmingham a 3-2 Victory Over Chatsworth

Chatsworth High’s Jon Tucker was thrown out at the plate in the seventh inning and Birmingham escaped with a 3-2 Northwest Valley Conference victory Tuesday over the Chancellors.
Tucker tried to score from second base on a line drive single by Danny Phillips, but a relay throw from pitcher Alberto Flores nailed him.
Flores (4-1) scattered 10 hits over seven innings.
Jason Barbanell had three hits for the Braves (11-7, 5-4), including a double.
Granada Hills 6, Cleveland 1--Jimmy Landress and Jarrett Gold slugged back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning, and Jarrod Penwarden added a run-scoring single in the same inning for the Highlanders (11-6, 5-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.
Penwarden finished with two runs batted in and Jessie Carranza (5-2) went the distance, scattering five hits and striking out eight.
El Camino Real 6, Taft 1--Shaun Fishman had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, and Gavin Bible added three hits and scored three runs for the Conquistadores (5-4 in conference play) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.
Mike Conn (4-1) went the distance for the Conquistadores, scattering eight hits.
Calabasas 22, Malibu 6--Billy Hoover and Jared Sandler each had three hits as the Coyotes (16-0, 8-0) overwhelmed the Sharks in a Frontier League game.
Taylor Hirose (1-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief and earned his first victory. He allowed one hit and struck out three. Brett Niles had two hits and four RBIs.
Quartz Hill 14, Littlerock 0--Darrell Hussman pitched his fifth shutout in six games, giving up one hit and striking out 15 for the Rebels in a Golden League game.
J.D. Smith scored three runs and drove in three runs for Quartz Hill (12-2, 3-0). Four other players had at least two hits for Quartz Hill.
Glendale 5, Muir 4--Chris Sheldon hit a two-run home run with two out and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth and the Dynamiters (7-6, 4-4) beat the Mustangs in a Pacific League game.
Antelope Valley 11, Highland 6--David Nichols had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for the Antelopes (4-11, 1-2) in a Golden League game.
Charlie Cooke and Damon Williams each had two hits for Antelope Valley.
Crescenta Valley 7, Hoover 2--Natt Putra pitched his third complete game for the Falcons (12-3, 6-2) in a Pacific League game. Putra threw a four-hitter, struck out two and walked four.
Santa Paula 4, Nordhoff 2--Paz Olson-Pacheco hit a two-run single in the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie and the Cardinals went on to a Frontier League victory at Nordhoff.
Clayton Alamillo added two hits for the Cardinals (9-5, 6-2). Miles Robertson had two hits, including a solo home run, and drove in two runs for the Rangers (6-8, 3-5).
Oak Park 8, Santa Clara 1--Eric Ruhle had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (7-5) in a nonleague victory over the Saints (5-5).
Palmdale 7, Burroughs Ridgecrest 6--Justice Jones scored the winning run on a delayed steal in the sixth in Golden League game at Palmdale (10-7).
SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley 4, Highland 3--Lisette Iturrilde and Tashia Aguinaga had consecutive doubles to spark a four-run rally in the sixth for the Antelopes (8-6, 2-1) in a Golden League game.
Newbury Park 1, Channel Islands 0--Kristi Fox fired a one-hitter, struck out 15 and slugged a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth in a Marmonte League game at Borchard Park.
Tina Roscoe added two hits, including a double, for the Panthers (12-3, 6-1).
Brandi Peterson’s second-inning single spoiled Fox’s no-hit bid.
Camarillo 11, Thousand Oaks 1--Tommee Payan’s three-run single in the second started a Marmonte League romp for Camarillo (12-2, 6-1).
Westlake 3, Simi Valley 2--Kelly DeArman pitched a two-hitter, struck out nine and walked two for the Warriors (12-3, 5-2) in a Marmonte League game.
DeArman (11-3), a senior left-hander, has struck out 114 in 87 innings. She also had two hits and an RBI.
Royal 6, Agoura 5--Kristy Thompson’s one-out single in the seventh drove in the winning run after Leah Barroso’s single drove in the tying run in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Simi Community Park.
Hoover 13, Glendale 0--Karla Nanne had four hits--including a two-run triple--and drove in four runs for the Tornadoes (8-8, 1-2) in a Pacific League game.
Tina Kinney (8-6) pitched a one-hitter for Hoover, striking out 13 and walking one.
GOLF
Hart 363, Canyon 448, Burbank 449, Saugus 450, Burroughs 452, Valencia 460--Brian Buck shot a six-under-par 65 for the Indians in the fourth Foothill League match at DeBell Golf Course in Burbank.
Steve Farris had a 71 for Hart.
