‘Thousand Stars’ Event to Promote Literacy

Actors, authors, musicians, newscasters, civic officials and others will read at public family story times for “Night (and Day) of a Thousand Stars,” part of the American Library Assn.’s weeklong promotion of literacy, on Wednesday at Los Angeles Public Central Library and branch locations.
A partial list: Ed Asner, Venice Abbot Kinney Memorial Branch, 7 p.m.; Charlton Heston, Encino-Tarzana Branch, 6:30 p.m.; McLean Stevenson, Woodland Hills Branch, 4:30 p.m., and KNBC weather-caster Christopher Nance, Granada Hills Branch, 10:30 a.m.
