Collins, Miller Help ARC Advance

Harvard-Westlake sophomore Jarron Collins scored 12 points and Chatsworth junior Eddie Miller added 10 to lead an American Roundball Corp. traveling team to a 75-68 victory Saturday over an all-star team from Atlanta in the Virginia Invitational tournament at Hampton University.

With the victory, the ARC team moved into the semifinals of the tournament.

Earlier Saturday, ARC received 14 points from Miller and 11 from Harvard sophomore Jason Collins in a 72-58 victory over an all-star team from Hampton.

Mater Dei sophomore Schea Cotton led the team in scoring with 22 points in the first game and 20 points in the second.

UCLA Coach Jim Harrick is among those scheduled to speak at the Simi Valley advanced basketball camp June 26-30 at Rancho Santa Susana Park’s gym. Ventura College Coach Philip Mathews, Pepperdine Coach Tony Fuller, former Cal Lutheran Coach Mike Dunlap, Cal State Fullerton Coach Bob Hawking and Washington Bullet Don MacLean also are scheduled to appear.

Tawnee Cooper of Simi Valley High, Carly Funicello of Alemany and Samantha Rigley of Alemany were selected to the All-Southern Section Girls basketball team, selected by the Amateur Athletic Foundation. Funicello and Rigley were selected to the team in 1994.

Six area players were chosen to the All-Southern Section Division I basketball teams. Eboni Conley and Nicole Greathouse of Buena, Tawnee Cooper of Simi Valley, Jackie Johnson of Quartz Hill and LaCresha Clark of Hart were first-team selections. Kristi Rose of Palmdale was a second-team selection.
