COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Humphrey Wins Anteater Invitational
Sophomore Darren Humphrey of UC Irvine shot a three-under-par 68 in the final round to win the individual title by 10 shots and also lead the Anteaters to a five-shot victory in the Anteater Invitational golf tournament Tuesday at Coto de Caza.
Humphrey had shot 69 and 73 in the first two rounds Monday. His 68 was the low round of the tournament and he finished at 210. Matt Murphy of San Diego State and Todd Pence of BYU tied for second at 220.
UC Irvine won with a score of 879. New Mexico State (884) was second and San Diego State (890) third.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Cal Baptist 10, Concordia 4--Christopher Wiggins was three for five with a home run and two RBIs for Concordia (12-21, 5-12). Andrew Saltsman had a home run and four RBIs for California Baptist (20-11, 11-4).
In Big West Conference softball:
Long Beach State 2-4, UC Santa Barbara 0-2--In Game 2, Alicia Marrone hit a three-run homer to give Long Beach (22-17, 7-5) the victory. In Game 1, Kristyn Frady had a hit and an RBI for Long Beach (22-17, 7-5) and Shelley Nelson added two hits and scored a run.
Pt. Loma Nazarene 4-4, Southern California College 1-0--Scott Slagel had a double in the first game for Southern California College (10-24, 5-11). Brandon Decker had a double in the second game for the Vanguards.
In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:
Southern California College 6-12, Point Loma 0-4--Shannon Saylor pitched a one-hitter in the first game, striking out eight and walking two for Southern California College (26-13, 8-2). Carrie Nelson had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs.
