Trustee Explains

A recent story (“Middle Schools to Go Back to 7 Classes a Day,” March 30) stated that I voted against a plan to reinstate the seven-period day for intermediate schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District for the 1996-97 school year.
While that is true, it is important to know that the reason I did not vote for the motion is because I wanted the seventh period to be reinstated in this coming 1995-96 school year. It really hurt me that the first action to reduce any spending for the next year was a direct hit on the kids.
The board has an educational responsibility, and to deny language arts to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders is real disheartening.
