SAN GABRIEL : Man Convicted of Shooting 3 Women Who Refused Sex
A San Gabriel man was convicted Thursday of attempted murder and mayhem for shooting three woman--blinding one of them--after they refused to have sex with his friends at a party.
Juan Carlos Villagrana, 25, could face three consecutive life prison terms when he is sentenced May 1 by Pasadena Superior Court Judge Terry Green.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Vivian Moreno said during Villagrana’s three-week trial that Villagrana got a gun from his room and followed the women onto the San Bernardino Freeway on Jan. 6, 1994.
He opened fire when he found them, blinding Virginia Romero, 18, and wounding two others. A 16-year-old girl ran away and escaped injury.
“He felt they had disrespected his homeboys,†Moreno said of the defendant, who was a gang member.
The jury found Villagrana guilty of three counts of premeditated attempted murder, and one count each of mayhem and aggravated mayhem, Moreno said.
