A trust fund has been set up to help the family of three young brothers who were killed when a police car, on its way to assist other officers, slammed into their truck as it crossed a San Pedro intersection.

Prudencio Pacheco, 15, and his brothers Ricardo, 5, and Javier, 9, died at the scene of the Monday night crash. Another brother, Fernando Evon Pacheco, 11, suffered a broken arm. A cousin, Edgar Martinez, 9, was in critical but stable condition with head injuries.

The Pachecos’ father, Fernando Pacheco, who was driving the truck, and his wife, Imelda Martinez Pacheco, suffered minor injuries.

Eleanor R. Montano, a member of the county Human Relations Commission, who is assisting the family, said the Pachecos need money to cover medical and funeral expenses.

Montano said donations can be made to the Fernando Pacheco Family Fund and sent to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, 1000 W. Carson St., Torrance 90509, Attention Randall F. Foster, Hospital Administrator, Box 1. Funeral arrangements were still pending.

Police Chief Willie L. Williams has promised a full investigation of the crash.
