MTA Adds to Fleet of Natural Gas Buses: The Metropolitan Transit Authority will buy 98 more buses powered by compressed natural gas to expand the Los Angeles area’s fleet to a total of 294 vehicles--the largest operating in North America. Southern California Gas Co. executives estimated that adding the cleaner-burning buses will reduce potential air pollution by removing 7,000 gasoline-powered vehicles from the road.
