COMPANY TOWN ANNEX
Sammons Sells Remaining Cable Businesses: Sammons Communications Inc. has agreed to sell the last of its cable television operations for $800 million to two companies affiliated with industry leader Tele-Communications Inc. Sammons sold the systems to the Lenfest Group and TKR cable, both of which are half-owned by Englewood, Colo.-based TCI. The franchises serve 440,000 subscribers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Sammons earlier this month agreed to sell most of its cable holdings to Marcus Cable of Dallas for $1 billion. Those properties serve about 650,000 customers in Texas, California, the Midwest and the South. Privately held Sammons served a total of 1.1 million customers in 18 states. The sale of its cable systems is part of an ongoing industry consolidation, as smaller companies sell their systems to big operators.
