PREP NOTES : County’s Top Wrestlers in All-Star Event Tonight

Some of the county’s best senior wrestlers will compete in the Orange County All-Star Wrestling Match at 7 tonight at Esperanza High School.

Jeff Greco (145) of Laguna Hills and Justin Meier (125) of Irvine, who each placed in the State tournament, and heavyweight Jim Ambriz of Saddleback are among the wrestlers participating.

Anaheim Coach Joe Mark and Ted Steffel of Loara will coach the Red team, and Cliff Jarmie of Laguna Hills and Joe Zeller of Capistrano Valley will coach the Blue team. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children.

El Dorado pitcher Don Jamieson has been accepted by Harvard and plans to play baseball there next season. Jamieson was a second-team All-Southern Section Division I selection last season and is 15-0 over the last two seasons.

Newport Harbor’s Sara Fairborn has orally committed to Georgetown and Corona del Mar back-row specialist Jenny Hover has committed to UCLA to accept volleyball scholarships.

Fairborn, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, was a second-team All-Southern Section Division I selection and helped the Sailors win the section and State Division I championships this season.

Santa Margarita’s Shannon Noonan, a 5-11 middle blocker, has orally committed to Division III UC San Diego. Noonan was a first-team All-Sea View League selection.

The Rotary Relays, rained out two weekends ago, have joined the Unocal Relays Saturday at Brea Olinda High.

Teams from throughout Southern California will participate, including 20 from Orange County. Some of the featured county teams are Canyon, Edison, Foothill, Corona del Mar, Woodbridge and Brea Olinda.
