Countywide : Westminster Student Gets Music Invitation
A local high school student has won an invitation to join the Sousa National High School Honors Band, one of the highest honors available to a young musician, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Unified School District said.
Daniel Flannery, a senior at La Quinta High School in Westminster, is a percussionist for the school band.
He was recommended for the honor by band director James Baker, said district spokesman Alan Trudell.
The Honors Band, sponsored by the nonprofit John Philip Sousa Foundation, is composed of more than 100 students from throughout the country.
After three days of rehearsals, the band will perform at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium on May 13, Trudell said.
Daniel, 17, lives in Westminster.
