Mike Hancock
Orange Coast, Freshman
Track/Middle distance
Hancock, from Newport Harbor High, is a freshman in name only. He graduated from high school in 1991, then spent two years in Brazil on a Mormon mission. He started at Orange Coast last spring but was too out of shape to compete. After working out over the summer and running cross-country last fall, Hancock, a 1,500- and 800-meter specialist, is starting to come around. Saturday he ran a 1,500 in three minutes 53.9 seconds, the second best time in Southern California this spring.
Baseball
Augie Ojeda
* Cypress, sophomore. He was six for 17, scored four runs and drove in four more as the Chargers split four games.
