Obituaries : * Gail P. Burke; Photographer for U.S. Navy
Gail P. Burke, a longtime Oxnard resident and a photographer for the U.S. Navy, has died. She was 56.
Burke died Tuesday after a long illness at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura.
A native of White Plains, N.Y., Burke moved in 1969 to Ventura, where she attended Ventura College. A year later she transferred to the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in photography, said her sister-in-law, Judith Burke.
For the past 20 years, Burke worked as a photographer for the U.S. Navy at Point Mugu. In her free time, Burke enjoyed photographing the outdoors and Victorian houses, Judith Burke said.
In addition to her sister-in-law, Burke is survived by two sisters: Virginia Gilligan, of Long Island, N.Y., and Jeanne Senior, of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Edward Burke of Juneau, Alaska; two brothers-in-law, Frank Gilligan and Arthur Senior, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are pending at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
