HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hart’s Colleran Collars Highland for Title

Mary Colleran struck out seven and walked two to lead Hart (9-0) to a 3-0 victory over Highland (3-2) in the championship game of the Hart softball tournament Saturday.

The performance by Colleran (8-0), the tournament’s most valuable player, came hours after a 10-inning victory over Camarillo in the semifinals in which the junior right-hander struck out 12 and walked three.

Hart came away with a 10-6 victory in that game after Anna Nordhagen’s bases-loaded triple in the top of the 10th keyed a six-run rally.

Nordhagen also singled in a run in seventh inning of the championship game, sparking a three-run Hart rally.

Camarillo 4, Santa Monica 2--Mandy Comer hit a two-run home run for the Scorpions (3-1) in the fourth inning of the third-place game of the Hart tournament.

Crescenta Valley 8, Hoover 5--Tina Kinney’s three-run triple in the bottom of the seventh was not enough for Hoover (5-3) against Pacific League rival Crescenta Valley (5-1) in the fifth-place game of the Hart tournament.

Hoover 4, Sylmar 1--Tina Kinney pitched a five-hitter and struck out six to help Hoover advance to the fifth-place game of the Hart tournament.

Lompoc 2, Simi Valley 1--Michelle Scohen had two hits for the Pioneers in a semifinal game of the Simi Valley tournament.

La Reina 6, Simi Valley 1--Corinne Long singled to score Julie Defada in the sixth inning for the Pioneers’ only run in the third-place game of the Simi tournament.

Notre Dame 5, North Hollywood 3--Angela Rotstein went three for three and struck out seven in a consolation game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Notre Dame 11, St. Bonaventure 1--Letizia Lucero hit a grand slam in the third inning and also had a run-scoring single in the first inning for the Knights (3-2) in a consolation game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Westlake 4, Burroughs 3--Cathy Davie tripled and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning when umpires ruled she had been interfered with at first base, carrying the Warriors to the consolation championship of the Simi Valley tournament. Davie had two triples and knocked in two runs.

Burroughs 8, Royal 2; Burroughs 4, Notre Dame 2--Holly Squire had three hits and scored three runs for Burroughs in the consolation semifinal against Royal.

Cornerstone Christian 16, West Valley Christian 0--Karri Becker pitched the fourth no-hitter of the year for the Eagles (4-0) and Julia Tamai had three hits and four RBIs in a nonleague game at Cornerstone Christian.

Village Christian 6, Duarte 1--Jackie Aranda (3-0) pitched a two-hitter, hit a home run, triple and single and drove in five runs for the Crusaders (4-1), who gave Coach Mike Vail his 100th victory at the school in the championship game of the Duarte tournament.

BASEBALL

Westlake 5, Montclair Prep 4--Aaron Tapking singled home Brian Schuster and Matt Riordan with the tying and winning runs in the seventh inning of a nonleague game at Westlake.

Eric Devine (2-0) allowed no hits over five innings and struck out six. Riordan had three hits, including a triple.

Quartz Hill 12, Brea-Olinda 6--Darrell Hussman hit a run-scoring double and a solo home run for host Quartz Hill (3-0) in a nonleague victory.

Dave Fischenich had two hits and drove in two runs for the Rebels, and Jeremy Daum (1-0) struck out five and walked six in six-plus innings.

Chaminade 4-1, Simi Valley 3-15--Ryan Hamill’s two-run home run in a three-run sixth inning sparked Chaminade (6-2) in the first game. Simi Valley (6-2) had 14 hits and six walks in the second game.

Danny Schwartz was three for three and Brian Kavanagh and Casey Vermette each had two hits for the Pioneers. Bruce Jarrin (1-0) earned the victory in relief, facing 10 batters without allowing a hit or a walk.

Saugus 6-16, Ridgecrest Burroughs 0-15--Kyle Jolly had two hits and an RBI in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Saugus. Jarrod Brunsman went three for three with four RBIs in the second game for the Centurions (4-2).

Hueneme 5-10, Loyola 3-5--Jeff Sanchez had three hits, including a double, and Averill Estrada added two hits and two RBIs for Hueneme in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader at Hueneme. Sanchez also had a two-run single to key a five-run, fifth-inning outburst by the Vikings (8-0) in the opener.

Rio Mesa 9, Harvard-Westlake 0--Manuel Chavira (1-1) pitched a five-hit shutout and had three hits in the fourth round of Westside tournament pool play. Vince Roman had two hits and knocked in three runs, and Eric Flores added two hits for the Spartans (4-2), who are 2-2 in the tournament.

Mira Costa 9-10; Agoura 1-12--John Dalrymple slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Chargers (5-2) a victory in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader at Agoura. Mitch Tisher, Matt Gershon and Manny Mosqueda each had two hits for the Chargers.

Kevin Fujimoto (3-0) of Mira Costa threw a no-hitter in the opener, striking out nine, and had a pair of home runs, driving in five.

Littlerock 16-9, Rosamond 2-16--Robbie Spradlin had three hits and four RBIs for the Lobos in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Rosamond. Robert Roberts had three hits and five RBIs in the second game for Littlerock (1-7).

Highland 10-5, Azusa 6-3--Kevin Holeman drove in two runs with a pair of doubles for Highland (3-3) in the first game of a Glendora tournament doubleheader.

Kevin Wright drove in three runs on two singles in the first game, and Andy Sneden drove in three runs in the second game on a single and a sacrifice fly.

Faith Baptist 6-16, Kern Valley 5-3--Judd Granzow (2-0) scattered five hits, struck out 11 and smacked a three-run home run for Faith Baptist in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Kern Valley. Granzow also homered in the second game, driving in two runs and scoring four.

Whitney 9, Bell-Jeff 5--David Matekel had two hits, stole a base, scored once and drove in two runs for Bell-Jeff (3-3) in an L.A. Baptist tournament game.

Village Christian 6-6, Paraclete 5-5--Adam Davis singled home Dave Gustafson in the eighth inning for the Crusaders in the second game of a doubleheader at Village Christian.

Gustafson had three hits for the Crusaders (5-0), including a home run on the first pitch of the first game.

Freshman Mike Santiago won both games, pitching seven innings in relief, striking out six and walking one.

L.A. Baptist 15, Ontario Christian 3--Brian Gant struck out five, hit a three-run home run, scored three runs and had three RBIs for the Knights (3-1) in a third-round game of the L.A. Baptist tournament.

Royal 5-9, Cabrillo 0-1--Adrian Mendoza and Ryan Nielson each pitched a one-hitter for the Highlanders in a nonleague doubleheader at Cabrillo.

Matt Pitstick had three hits and one RBI for Royal (5-2).

BOYS’ TRACK

Burbank Invitational--Vaughan Lucas of Burbank won the shotput (48 feet 11 1/4 inches) and the discus (140-3) in the meet at his home track.
