Goalkeeper Gets a Kick Out of Bet
MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina — “How many points you giving me?” joked U.S. soccer goalkeeper Jeff Cassar, who attends Florida International. FIU plays UCLA today in the NCAA basketball tournament.
Cassar, here for the Pan American Games, says he attended most Golden Panther home games . . . along with a few hundred others.
“Our crowds aren’t big, but we can get rowdy,” Cassar said. “Sometimes we cheer for the team. Other times we just cheer for somebody to dunk.”
On the game with UCLA, Cassar said: “I already made a bet with our assistant (Pan Am) coach, Sigi Schmid, who’s from UCLA,” Cassar said. “Of course, I’m getting 20 points.”
