VanderKolk Leaves City for Colorado

Former Supervisor Maria VanderKolk has packed up her bags and moved out of Ventura County.
VanderKolk and her husband Michael departed Thousand Oaks for her hometown, Arvada, Colo., last Friday, former aide Leonora Kirby said. VanderKolk, who is due to have her second child in April, has said she is planning an eventual return to a marketing career.
Her husband will join her family’s hardware business.
VanderKolk won a surprising and extremely narrow victory over former Supervisor Madge Schaefer in 1990. At that time, she was a 25-year-old political novice who won largely because of strong support from the environmentalist community.
But in her third year as supervisor, after many of her former supporters had turned against her, she said she would not seek reelection.
