Obituaries : * Myrtle Myra McGlinchey, 94; Oxnard Resident
Oxnard resident Myrtle Myra McGlinchey, the last surviving member of a pioneering Ventura County family, died Monday. She was 94.
McGlinchey’s grandparents emigrated from Ireland and settled in Ventura County in the mid-1800s. They operated a large dairy farm on what is now Ventura Avenue, in Ventura.
Her father, Thomas William (Bill) McGlinchey, was Ventura County sheriff and tax collector in the 1920s. He also was an insurance broker and real estate developer, building many homes on the tract still known as McGlinchey Tract.
Her mother’s family founded the Ramirez and Feraud Chile Cannery in Ventura County. The company was renamed and its salsa is sold worldwide under the name Las Palmas.
She leaves no known immediate family members.
She was a member of the San Buenaventura Young Ladies Institute No. 160 since 1941. She was also a member of the Republican Women Federated-Oxnard.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Chapel, Ventura. A mass and funeral service will be said 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Old San Buenaventura Mission, where she was baptized in 1900.
