AMR Cuts 900 Jobs, Names Group President: The parent of American Airlines said it is cutting about 14% management and support staff jobs at its Dallas headquarters as part of a restructuring that also included naming Donald Carty president of the company’s Airline Group and American Airlines. AMR said the job cuts will save it $93 million annually. It said about 600 of the affected employees will take early retirement. It also said its chairman, Robert Crandall, handed over his titles of president of the Airline Group and president of American Airlines to Carty, who has been an executive vice president and chief financial officer at AMR since 1989. Crandall will remain chairman and chief executive of American Airlines as well as chairman, chief executive and president of AMR.
