PREP ROUNDUP : Jordaan’s Individual, Relay Victories Help Woodbridge
Nikki Jordaan, a 14-year-old freshman from South Africa, helped Woodbridge to victory after winning two individual events and competing on two first-place relays in a nonleague girls’ swimming tri-meet Friday at Heritage Park Aquatic Complex in Irvine.
Woodbridge finished with 209 points, followed by Laguna Hills (187) and Capistrano Valley (104).
Jordaan won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes 15.9 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.93.
Both times qualify her for the Southern Section Division I preliminaries in May.
In other nonleague girls’ swimming:
El Dorado 122, Brea Olinda 48--Nancy and Grace Jo swept their individual events for El Dorado. Grace won the 200 freestyle (2:05.51) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.54). Nancy took the 200 IM (2:11.85) and the 500 free (5:09.74).
Orange 106 1/2, Valencia 61 1/2--Shannon Strini finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.51) and 100 freestyle (56.80) for Orange (2-0).
Santa Margarita 97, Villa Park 73--Brooke Martin and Lisa Henningsen each won two events for Santa Margarita (2-0). Martin won the 100 butterfly (1:02.94) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.68).
Henningsen finished first in the 50 freestyle (26.47) and 100 backstroke (1:02.75).
Orange 88, Valencia 77--Ryan Christensen won the 50 freestyle (22.47) and 100 freestyle (50.22) to lead Orange (2-0).
Villa Park 91, Santa Margarita 73--Dan Tognazzini won the 200 freestyle (1:52.19) and the 100 backstroke (58.74) for Villa Park (3-0).
Woodbridge 168, Capistrano Valley 166, Laguna Hills 161--Ethan Yotter led Woodbridge (1-0) with victories in the 100 butterfly in 57.16 and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.17.
In nonleague baseball:
Mission Viejo 8, Buena Park 6--Mission Viejo (2-1-1) scored all its runs in the first three innings. Corrie Willkie went three for four and Todd Reinhart two for four with two runs scored for the Diablos.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Estancia 10, Huntington Beach 8--Mike Leonard swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Estancia (3-1).
In nonleague softball:
Newport Harbor 2, Santiago 2 (8 innings, darkness)--Molli Mullen tripled and scored on an overthrow to get the tying run for Newport Harbor (1-3-1).
St. Margaret’s 19, Calvary Chapel 0 (5, mercy rule)--St. Margaret’s (2-0) drew 21 walks in the game and scored 11 runs in the fifth inning.
