3M Shines Light on Piracy: Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. has an answer to Asia’s rampant product piracy without resorting to geopolitics: penlights. The company has begun distributing pocket-size flashlights with some 3M-brand computer disks sold in China. Shining the penlight on a tiny light-sensitive sticker attached to the disk’s box indicates whether the disk is genuine.
