COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Rally to Beat Pepperdine on Matos’ Three-Run Double

Robert Matos hit a three-run double to left-center field in the top of the fifth, giving top-ranked Cal State Fullerton a 6-3 victory over Pepperdine Wednesday in Malibu.
Pepperdine (7-10) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run by first baseman Gerardo Gonzalez.
In the fifth, with the Waves still leading, 3-1, the Titans loaded the bases on singles by Rony Martinez, Jack Jones and C.J. Ankrum. Matos then cleared the bases with his double.
Fullerton (18-3) scored two more runs in the sixth on a double by Joe Fraser and a single by Jones.
Tom Dillon (3-0) picked up the victory in relief. James Melcher (0-1), one of nine pitchers for Pepperdine, took the loss.
In other nonconference baseball:
Concordia 11, Redlands 0--Pitchers Jeff Daniel, Trevor Earle, James Maddock and Scott Pierce combined on a one-hitter for host Concordia (7-9).
Junior Brett Waslefsky had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs and Chris Wiggins hit a two-run home run for the Eagles.
Cal Lutheran 17, Chapman 3--Brad Martin hit a two-run home run in the fifth for Chapman. It was his sixth homer of the season. Duke hit a bases-empty homer in the seventh for the Panthers (5-11).
John Becker had three RBIs and two doubles for Cal Lutheran.
In women’s nonconference women’s tennis:
Southern California College 7, Occidental 2--Quynh Le defeated Chheng Ear, 6-1, 6-0, and Wendy Andel beat Shirley Hua, 6-0, 6-2, for Southern California College (5-3). Le and Andel defeated Ear and Hua, 6-3, 6-2, in doubles.
