School Board OKs Reconfigured Grades
The Los Angeles Board of Education on Monday approved the reconfiguration of district schools so that more junior high schools will include the sixth grade, and the ninth grade will be included in high schools.
Canterbury Avenue, Fernangeles and Vena Avenue elementary schools in the East Valley will not include the sixth grade in the 1995-96 school year. Sepulveda Middle School’s gifted/high achievement magnet and Van Nuys High School’s math/science magnet also will be reconfigured beginning this fall.
Most other East Valley schools are scheduled for reconfiguration in the 1996-97 school year.
In addition to including the ninth grade, a district report suggested that East Valley middle and high schools “are expected to change to a multitrack (year-round) calendar . . . to accommodate incoming ninth- and sixth-graders.”
