Mater Dei Boys, Girls Are Seeded First

Mater Dei has been seeded first in the boys’ and girls’ CIF Southern Regional Division I basketball playoff pairings, which were announced Sunday.
The Monarch boys play Long Beach Poly at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bren Center in the first round. Mater Dei, which has a 21-game winning streak, is 32-1. Long Beach Poly is 21-10.
This is the fourth consecutive season Mater Dei has been the top-ranked team in the State playoffs. Los Angeles Crenshaw, which upset Mater Dei in the last two Southern Regional championship games, is seeded second. Crenshaw (24-5) also won the last two State titles.
Tustin (28-2) earned a berth in Division II and plays at Oceanside El Camino (28-2). Corona del Mar (18-11) plays host to Gardena Serra (17-12) in a Division IV game.
The second round will be played Thursday and the regional finals are on Saturday.
The Mater Dei girls (25-1) play Los Angeles Washington Prep (18-7) in a first-round game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bren Center.
Woodbridge was seeded first in the girls’ Division II and Brea Olinda also got a home game in the same division. Woodbridge (29-1) plays host to San Diego Scripps Ranch (19-12) and South Bakersfield (24-4) is at Brea Olinda.
The second round will be played Thursday and the regional finals are on Saturday.
