EU Devalues Peseta: The Spanish currency along with the Portuguese escudo were devalued today against other member currencies of the European Union exchange rate mechanism. The peseta was devalued by 7% and the escudo by 3.5%. It was the fourth devaluation of the currencies since 1992.
