DOWNTOWN : Full Agenda Set for Latina History Day
A discussion of Latinos in the media and a speech by Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina will highlight a daylong conference Friday to celebrate Latina History Day.
The event, organized by the nonprofit HOPE Education and Leadership Fund, will also include award presentations to Dolores Huerta, the co-founder and vice president of United Farm Workers; retired Congressman Edward Roybal; Maria Elena Durazo, president of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 11, and Leonard Schaeffer, chairman and chief executive officer of Blue Cross of California.
HOPE, an acronym for Hispanas Organized for Political Equity, works to further the education and participation of Latinas in the private and public sectors, said Isabella Casillas, coordinator of the conference, which will be at the Biltmore Hotel.
Panelists for the “Latinos in the Media” discussion include Alejandra Espinoza, of KMEX-TV; Luis Avalos, an actor; Rosemarie Alderete, a producer, writer and director, and filmmaker Moctesuma Esparza.
Cost for the full day is $100; half-day is $50.
