WILSHIRE : Immigrant Rights Forum Planned
- Share via
A public forum on Proposition 187 and what opponents can do to curb anti-illegal immigrant sentiment will be held Saturday at the Labor/Community Strategy Center.
“Immigrant Rights and Wrongs” will include panelists such as state Sen. Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica) and Southern Christian Leadership Conference Director Joe Hicks, who will discuss Proposition 187, the voter-approved measure that would deny most public services to undocumented immigrants. A federal injunction has blocked implementation until further court review. Other topics include the effects on minorities of the “three strikes” law, which mandates life imprisonment after a third felony conviction.
The forum will be at the center’s offices in the Wiltern Theatre, 3764 Wilshire Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information: (213) 387-2800.
