Sigel Defends Title at Ojai Starting Today

Jay Sigel, who tied the Ojai Valley Inn course record with an eight-under-par 62 in the final round last year, returns to defend his championship this weekend in the FHP Health Care Classic.

The 54-hole, $750,000 PGA Senior Tour event begins today with a field that includes Jim Colbert, Dave Stockton, Jim Albus, Bob Murphy, Tony Jacklin, Chi Chi Rodriguez and Arnold Palmer.

After coming from 10 shots behind Colbert in the final round last year to force a playoff, Sigel beat him on the fourth playoff hole. Although Sigel did not win another tournament last year, he earned $634,000 and was named rookie of the year.
