HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
No. 4 Santa Ana Mater Dei 75, No. 13 Fountain Valley 62--Mater Dei went on a 23-3 run in the first quarter and never looked back in a I-A semifinal at Huntington Beach High.
The Monarchs (24-1) led 33-11 in the second quarter. Melody Peterson led Mater Dei with 21 points.
No. 14 Long Beach Poly 58, Hesperia 53--Trailing, 19-13, at halftime, Poly (24-4) switched to a pressing defense and pulled away in the I-AA game at Victor Valley College.
Hesperia (20-8) could not adjust to the press and committed 23 turnovers, including nine in the third quarter.
Laneka Allen led Poly with 24 points, and teammate K.K. Johns added 13.
Santa Maria Valley Christian 50, Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep 45--Guard Kelly Wyatt did it all for Valley Christian (24-3), finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, 13 assists, seven steals and four blocked shots, in a V-A game at Righetti High.
