Aztecs’ Pugmire Commits to Brigham Young
Esperanza’s Courtney Pugmire, The Times Orange County girls’ cross-country runner of the year this past fall, has signed a letter of intent to attend Brigham Young, Aztec Coach Al Britt said Tuesday.
Known primarily as a middle-distance specialist, Pugmire was the Southern Section Division II champion at 800 and 1,600 meters last spring. She selected BYU over Alabama and Villanova.

Richard Smith has resigned as boys’ basketball coach at Newport Harbor, according to Athletic Director Eric Tweit.
Smith coached at Newport Harbor for two seasons, compiling a 21-30 record. He also coached at Servite, leading the Friars to the State Division III championship in 1990 and the Southern Section Division III-A title in 1991.
