LA HABRA : Investigators Seeking Suspect in Shooting
Police are looking for a suspect who they believe fatally shot a 28-year-old man three weeks ago.
Fernando Hernandez of La Habra was found shot to death Feb. 10 in the 1000 block of Cypress Street. Police said he was shot in the head, apparently after an altercation during which shots were fired from a car.
A suspect is identified as 20-year-old Jose Luis Acosta, a Mexican citizen who police said fled to Mexico after the shooting but may have returned.
La Habra investigators have reached Acosta by telephone and sought to persuade him to surrender, but his whereabouts are unknown, a police statement said. Acosta also goes by the name of Jose Luis Acosta Hernandez and Jorge Acosta.
He is described as 5-foot-8,, weighing 160 pounds, with shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes. Acosta has a large burn scar or birthmark on his left shoulder and upper chest. His left ear is pierced, and he is missing an upper front tooth, police said.
Anyone with information on Acosta’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Fred Wiste at (310) 905-9761.
