MUNICH : Focus on Security

About 200 defense experts, including 17 government ministers and NATO Secretary General Willy Claes, are scheduled to meet this weekend to grapple with new security challenges of the post-Cold War era.

The meeting is the 32nd annual Munich Conference on Security Policy. Participants are expected to focus on changes in the transatlantic relationship.

U.S. Defense Secretary William J. Perry is scheduled to attend, but it’s considered unlikely that he’ll raise any new ideas with his Russian counterpart, Pavel S. Grachev, who was invited but is not likely to show up. He has been criticized in Germany for Moscow’s messy foray into Chechnya.
