U.S. Skiers Get Another Big One
. . . .Blair, undefeated in each of her six World Cup 500-meter races this season, won in 40.17 seconds, slighty off her 39.71-second pace on Friday. Susan Auch of Canada was second in 40.34 and Monique Garbrecht of Germany was third at 40.51.
. . . .Janne Ahonen of Finland finished second with 241.5 points and Japan’s Takanobu Okabe and Ari-Pekka Nikkola of Finland shared third place with 240 points.
Football
Karen Capers, wife of the Pittsburgh defensive coordinator, told the Gaston Gazette in North Carolina that her husband will sign a contract Monday before being named at the news conference. Team President Mike McCormack said Friday that the Panthers had made a contract offer to Capers.
Capers’ apparent hiring cost the team long before the latest events. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue fined the Panthers $150,000 and stripped them of two supplemental draft picks for contacting Capers before the completion of the Steeler’ season.
