COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fresno Pacific Stops Concordia’s Streak

Fresno Pacific defeated Concordia, 67-63, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday in Fresno, stopping the Eagles’ school-record winning streak at 13 games.

Concordia (17-2, 2-1), ranked No. 10 in the NAIA national poll, fell behind 15-2 and 34-14 before rallying.

Tim Amundsen scored 19 points and Brian Volenec had 18 for Fresno Pacific (12-4, 2-1). Tarik James and Jeff Putnam each scored 13 points for Concordia.

In another GSAC men’s basketball game:

Azusa Pacific 90, Southern California College 79--The Vanguards fell behind at halftime, 52-37, and could not recover. Kevin Carlson scored 21 for SCC (10-9, 0-2). Raymond Tutt had 24 points for Azusa Pacific (14-6, 3-0).

In GSAC women’s basketball:

Southern California College 61, Azusa Pacific 56--Heather Brannan scored 18 points, 10 in the second half for the visiting Vanguards (9-7, 1-0).

SCC’s 16-2 run midway through the first half helped it take a 36-18 halftime lead. Azusa Pacific (4-13, 1-2) pulled within two points twice in the second half, but SCC made seven straight free throws in the final 31 seconds to hold on.

Heather Woodruff added 14 points for the Vanguards. Christy Brock led Azusa Pacific with 22 points.
