Dance Writer Maynard Dies
IRVINE — Olga Maynard, dance historian, writer and retired UC Irvine professor, has died at 81.
Maynard taught at UCI for 20 years before retiring in 1989. She wrote seven books on ballet and was a senior editor of Dance Magazine, to which she contributed numerous articles.
Born in Belem, Brazil, she married three times. Her third husband, Elliott Russell Maynard, died in 1985. Survivors include six children: Hugo Maynard of Portland; Stephen Maynard and Ralph Maynard, both of Las Vegas; Patrick Maynard of London, Ontario; Antoinette Maynard of Los Angeles, and Russell Maynard of San Diego.
Maynard died at her home in Irvine on Dec. 26 of respiratory failure resulting from pulmonary fibrosis. A private service was held in Tustin on Dec. 30.
