Man Hit by Car Dies in Surgery
A 54-year-old Oxnard man who was critically injured when he stepped in front of a car has died, authorities said Wednesday.
Carlos Soto Zaragoza died late Tuesday during emergency surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, said Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis.
According to Oxnard police, Zaragoza was hit by a car driven by Rudolph Contreras, 65, of Oxnard about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday.
The accident occurred on 2nd Street west of D Street. Contreras told officers he saw Zaragoza step into the road but was unable to stop in time.
