BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Improves Its Record to 12-0
Brock Jacobsen scored 33 points and had seven assists to lead the Crescenta Valley High basketball team to a 70-39 victory over Loara in the quarterfinals of the Anaheim Canyon tournament on Wednesday night. The Falcons will face Schurr tonight at 7:30.
Jacobsen, a senior, has scored 74 points in two tournament games.
Jake Willis added eight points and 10 assists for the Falcons.
Crescenta Valley (12-0), the Times’ top-ranked team in the region, is off to its best start since the team went 29-0 before losing in the Southern Section championship game in 1971.
In other games:
Harvard-Westlake 70, Arroyo 51--The No. 2-ranked Wolverines (12-0) set a team record with 33 assists in a semifinal victory in the Covina tournament.
Jarron Collins led Harvard with 16 points and six assists.
Arroyo fell to 9-2.
Fairfax 62, Chatsworth 49--The Chancellors (9-3) lost in the consolation bracket of the Best of the West tournament at Artesia High despite 23 points from Eddie Miller. Jair Fray scored 16 points to lead Fairfax.
Montclair Prep 63, Franklin 46--Reed Berglund scored 16 points for Montclair Prep (11-3) in a La Salle tournament semifinal.
Teammates Akil Anderson and Scott Stark each scored 12 points, while Anwan Jones added 10 for the Mounties, who will meet Mission Prep tonight for the championship.
Reseda 63, Van Nuys 59--Bernard Martinez had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Shawn Blackman added 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Regents (3-9) won a consolation semifinal in the Birmingham tournament.
The Bishop’s 83, Campbell Hall 81--The Knights made a jump shot with two seconds to play in the second overtime, giving the San Diego school a victory in the first round of the Pasadena Poly tournament. Mike Appel scored 25 points for Campbell Hall (4-6), which led by seven after three quarters.
Highland 80, San Bernardino Cajon 73--Carl Biel had 22 points, nine assists and six steals for Highland (10-2) in the consolation semifinals of the San Bernardino tournament. John Burrell had 28 points and Jamal Dedeaux 19 for the Bulldogs, who led, 45-43, at halftime.
L.A. Baptist 58, Oak Park 57--Kevin Aust hit a turnaround bank shot for the only basket of the overtime period in the first round of the Santa Paula tournament. Matt Bergeson, who scored 18 points, made a four-foot jump shot to tie the score, 56-56, with 12 seconds to go in regulation. Oak Park forward Shawn Williams scored 17 points but fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.
L.A. Baptist is 7-3, Oak Park 3-7.
