Harold Krensky; Ex-President of Federated Stores

Harold Krensky, 82, a former president of Federated Department Stores and a trustee of Boston University for 30 years. Krensky joined New York-based Bloomingdale’s in 1947 and worked there until 1960, when he became an executive vice president at Filene’s in Boston. In 1963, he became president and chief executive officer of Filene’s, leaving in 1966 to return to New York as chairman and managing director of Bloomingdale’s. He was promoted to group president of the stores’ parent, Federated, in 1969, became vice chairman in 1971 and became president in 1973, serving for seven years. When he stepped down, Federated was generating annual sales of about $7 billion. Krensky graduated from Boston University in 1935 and earned a law degree from the school. He joined the Board of Trustees in 1964. In New York City on Sunday.
