FOUNTAIN VALLEY
An Advocate for the Disabled
Who: Fountain Valley City Councilman George B. Scott
Contribution: Scott, who is serving his fifth, four-year term on the council, recently received the Community-Civic Service Leader award at the Apple of Our Eye Recognition Breakfast, sponsored by the Dayle McIntosh Center for the Disabled in Anaheim. He was recognized for his contributions to the disabled. Scott has given countless volunteer hours to organizations dedicated to making daily life easier and more productive for those with physical disabilities. Scott has served on the board of directors for California Elwyn Institute, which helps train the disabled in job skills, and was a founding member of the Omni Service Club, which provides support to youths who need motorized wheelchairs, computers and special speech devices. Scott also helped eliminate barriers that limit access for handicapped residents through making curb cuts on sidewalks and oversize parking spaces. He also helped form the city’s Advisory Committee for the Disabled.

Taking Crime Out of Shadows
Who: ITT Corp.
Contribution: The company has received an outstanding corporate citizen award from the Santa Ana Police Department. ITT donated two Night Enforcer vision devices to the department. The company’s Electro-Optical Products division developed the Night Enforcer vision equipment to help law enforcement officers see better. The equipment helps identify and apprehend suspected criminals quickly, said Santa Ana police Capt. Dan McCoy. ITT has also donated Night Enforcer equipment to the Los Angeles and San Bernardino police departments.

HUNTINGTON BEACH
Saluting Heroes of Health Care
Who: Etta Marie Becker and Tony Sriruksa
Contribution: The two were chosen to receive Huntington Beach Medical Center’s Humanitarian Awards for their exemplary work, caring and concern. Becker and Sriruksa have set a high standard for health-care professionals, said the medical center’s CEO, Carol Freeman. Becker, a hospital volunteer for 15 years, received the volunteer award. Sriruksa, who works as the hospital’s chef, received the employee award. Both will be nominated for Columbia/HCA Healthcare’s nationwide humanitarian awards--given by the hospital’s parent company.
