Only three of the 112 Penn State players are from west of the Mississippi and none are from California. The three are fullback Brian Tupa of Rolla, N.D., cornerback Shino Prater of Arlington, Tex., and punter Scott Stephens of North Little Rock, Ark.
But that could change.
“Maybe playing in Pasadena will catch the eye of some young men from California,†Coach Joe Paterno said. “We know there are lot of good ones and they’d be welcome at Penn State.â€

With most of their heavy work behind them, Paterno and the Penn State football team will become sightseers much of this week.
On Tuesday they will visit Disneyland along with members of the Oregon team. On Wednesday the Big Ten champions will be at Universal Studios.

Some Penn State football alumni living in Southern California, including the Rams’ Shane Conlan, Rosey Grier and Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti, have visited the Nittany Lions at practice.
“We could put together a pretty good alumni team, although I don’t know if Rosey Grier could get down in a three-point stance anymore,†said Paterno, who coached them all.
