OSLO : In the Name of Peace
Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat will receive the Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday in the traditional awards ceremony at Oslo’s city hall.
The three leaders will be honored for their work in fashioning the Israeli-Palestinian peace accord, which despite serious problems in its implementation has laid the basis for ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Prior to the ceremony, Rabin and Arafat will confer on the difficult steps they must take next in organizing the Palestinians’ first national elections and pulling Israeli forces out of Palestinian towns and villages in the occupied West Bank.
