In his strongest comments yet about the Coliseum, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said Monday that he is not certain that problems with the facility are “solvable,†and said he continues to work toward building a new stadium in Southern California.

“There have been problems with the Coliseum, and there continue to be problems,†Tagliabue said. “I don’t know if they are solvable.

“(It) is not a state-of-the-art facility, nobody should delude themselves into thinking that it is.

“We’ve had meetings with Mayor (Richard) Riordan in the last couple of weeks, we’ve met with members of the private sector in Los Angeles to talk about stadium opportunities. It’s all under review.â€

Tagliabue said the area should not worry about losing both the Rams and Raiders.

“I think that’s very unlikely,†he said. “We are working through the difficulties and will continue to have strong representation in Southern California. . . . We will be represented with at least one, possibly two strong teams.â€
