39 Hurt as Philadelphia Taxi Plows Into Club
- Share via
PHILADELPHIA — A taxi crashed through the glass facade of a crowded nightclub early Saturday, slid across the dance floor and struck the bar, injuring 39 people.
Some patrons were pinned to the floor when the taxi came to a stop in the private after-hours club during its grand opening. Others tipped the cab over to free those trapped underneath. Most of those hurt suffered scrapes and bruises; a few had fractures, police said.
The cab driver was one of eight people admitted to city hospitals. He has not been charged, but the accident is being investigated, police said.
