OUTLOOK
The Oilers lack the size they need to be considered a threat, but they show great chemistry and excel at defense. Bartlett thinks it might be the best team he’s had, including the 23-4 team of two years ago that featured Clare Walker. This season will be different because there is no dominant player like Walker, though Castro (11.3 points) is likely to emerge as a scoring talent. The Oilers will employ an aggressive defense designed to take opposing teams out of their game plans. Huntington Beach also expects to score baskets created by its up-tempo style of play. Huntington Beach can’t afford to get stuck in a half-court game. Because of the frenetic pace, the freshmen will be counted on heavily to spell the starters. The Oilers’ good free-throw shooting skills will help them in close games.
