The number of drunk-driving arrests in Ventura County over the four-day holiday weekend dropped by more than 40% from a year ago, down to 19, the California Highway Patrol reported Sunday.
“The word in general is getting out that drunk driving is just not acceptable anymore,” a CHP spokesman said. “A lot more people are adhering to that, and they’re either not drinking or they’re designating a driver.”
Over the four-day holiday last year, the CHP reported 33 drunk-driving arrests.
The CHP conducted a maximum enforcement period from Wednesday night to Sunday night, assigning all available officers to the area’s streets and highways.
