PLACENTIA — Assistant Supt. Sharon McHolland was promoted to deputy superintendent this week by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Board of Trustees.
The board unanimously approved McHolland’s promotion in a closed-door session before Tuesday’s board meeting. She becomes the district’s first deputy superintendent after serving as one of three assistant superintendents.
Since 1987, McHolland has been in charge of the district’s educational services division, which oversees curriculum and special projects. As deputy superintendent, McHolland will continue to head up that division, but with as yet undefined additional responsibilities. She will also serve as acting superintendent when Supt. James O. Fleming is out of the district.
Fleming requested the promotion to reflect the district’s commitment to academics, officials said.
“Sharon has provided outstanding leadership as assistant superintendent, which has been reflected in our students’ outstanding academic and co-curricular performance,” Fleming said in a statement.
McHolland will receive a $2,500 annual raise, effective Dec. 1, bringing her total salary package to $91,688.
