OUTLOOK
The overwhelming choice to win the title has an added incentive. “We talk every day about the fact that every team, especially in our league, we can make their season by upsetting us,” Sonora Coach Mike Murphy said. “And the loss in the semifinals to Servite has really motivated our kids to work hard because we want to get to the next step. These seniors have been on varsity for three years. They think this can be a special year.” Murphy is playing a pat hand, but it’s a full house led by Clark. The Raiders can play it any way you want--big, small, uptempo, half-court--and play it better than most. Since they tower over the rest of the Freeway League heightwise, Murphy’s biggest problem may be to keep Sonora motivated until the playoffs. “I think our league is really balanced; everybody is pretty good,” Murphy said. Perhaps, but there isn’t a Freeway coach who wouldn’t swap teams with Murphy if he had the chance.
