Everything you always wanted to know about UCLA, USC, the series, and the game Saturday at the Rose Bowl:
The Bruins can’t go to a bowl this season, but can make it four in a row over the Trojans for the first time. . . .
USC leads the series, 34-22-7, and has outpointed UCLA, 1,236-983. . . .
Tickets, priced at $30, are still available. In fact, an agency has placed newspaper advertisements this week not for Saturday’s game, but the USC-Notre Dame game on Nov. 26 at the Coliseum. . . .
ABC will televise both USC-UCLA and Oregon- Oregon State at 12:30 p.m. on a regional basis. We’ll get the Bruins and Trojans on Channel 7, but, presumably, also frequent updates from Corvallis. . . .
USC’s turnover ratio of plus-1.4 per game is best in the Pacific 10 Conference and fifth in the nation. UCLA’s ratio of minus-0.4 is ninth in the conference. . . .
After O.J. Simpson’s 64-yard run during USC’s 21-20 victory in 1967, Coach John McKay said, “A good back might have made the eight yards for a first down. O.J. made it to the Rose Bowl.” . . .
To the winner goes the Victory Bell. . . .
The bell, which used to hang from a Southern Pacific locomotive, was rung after every point scored by UCLA teams in 1939-40. Then it was stolen by USC students. It became a prize in 1942. . . .
The kicking might be the finest at the Rose Bowl since the World Cup. . . .
UCLA punter Darren Schager is averaging 43.9 yards, which ranks eighth nationally and first in the conference. USC’s John Stonehouse is second in the conference and 11th nationally with a 43.7 average. . . .

Jack Ellena and Bob Peterson, co-captains of the Bruins’ unbeaten 1954 team that shared the mythical national championship with Ohio State, will be introduced to the crowd at the end of the first quarter. . . .
Tommy Prothro and Ann Sanders, the widow of Red Sanders, will watch from the VIP area of the press box. . . .
UCLA long snapper Christian Andersen is the son of Foster Andersen, a former Bruin guard and assistant coach at UCLA and USC. . . .
USC has averaged 43 points during its last three games. . . .
After the Trojans’ 52-0 win in 1931, the series was discontinued until 1936. In September that year, Times columnist Braven Dyer predicted the Bruins would tie the Trojans, 7-7, when the rivalry resumed. He was proven exactly right. . . .
UCLA is celebrating its 75th anniversary and Charles Young his 25th anniversary as chancellor. . . .
Bruin alumni include Tom Bradley, the late Ralph Bunche, Francis Ford Coppola and John Williams. . . .
USC, which was founded in 1880, maintains one of the 27 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation. . . .
Trojan alumni include Art Buchwald, Warren Christopher, George Lucas and the late John Wayne. . . .
Twenty-nine Bruins made the Director’s Honor Roll with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher during the 1993-94 school year. . . .
Twenty of USC’s 26 seniors last season have graduated and five others are within a semester of earning their degrees. . . .

Early arrivals will have a chance to attend the water polo game between the second-ranked Trojans and sixth-ranked Bruins at 10 a.m. at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. . . .
Free shuttle bus service will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the parking lot at the Parsons Engineering Building at Fair Oaks and Walnut in Pasadena. . . .
Terry Donahue is 2-0 against USC as a UCLA player, 1-3-1 as an assistant coach, and 8-9-1 as a head coach. . . .
John Robinson is 3-0 against UCLA as a USC assistant coach and 5-3 as a head coach. . . .
UCLA clinched its first Rose Bowl berth with a 14-7 victory in 1942. However, the great Bob Waterfield completed only two of six passes against the Trojans. . . .
USC wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and UCLA tailback Sharmon Shah were roommates in 1992-93 when Johnson attended West L.A. Community College. . . .
The highest-scoring game in the series was USC’s 45-42 victory in 1990. The quarterback who threw the winning touchdown pass to Johnnie Morton with 16 seconds left, Todd Marinovich, has resurfaced as a volunteer quarterback coach for Capistrano Valley High. . . .
Prediction: USC 38, UCLA 28.
