LA MIRADA : County May Donate Parkland for Gym
- Share via
The county has tentatively agreed to donate one acre of La Mirada Regional Park to the city to build a $2-million gymnasium.
County parks and recreation officials have issued a letter saying they will deed the land to La Mirada if the city provides office space in the gym for a county recreation staff member and agrees to care for landscaping near the facility.
The provisions also require the city to maintain a parking lot next to the gym site off Alicante Road and to expand it if the gym creates a parking shortage. Los Angeles County supervisors could approve the land transfer within a few weeks, said Henry Roman, the county’s assistant parks and recreation director.
The county has given away about 11 parkland sites to cities in the last two years.
