Refreshing Debate in Beilenson-Sybert Race

Congratulations to John Schwada for a most accurate story on the first debate between Rep. Anthony Beilenson and his opponent, Richard Sybert (“Beilenson Backs Democrats in Debate with GOP’s Rich Sybert,” Oct. 12).
I was present Tuesday morning when they spoke to us seniors. It was most refreshing to hear Rep. Beilenson speak about all the accomplishments of the present Administration and not deride Mr. Sybert. I am sick and tired of all the berating that people running for office do against one another. Please tell us voters what you intend to accomplish should you be voted into office. Do not knock the other fellow; that is hitting below the belt, particularly when it may be false and a half-truth.
We want to know what your intentions are in making the United States a better place. We want to know what plans you have formulated. We want to know your qualifications. We want to know all about you, and not your opponent’s failings as you see them. As responsible voters we will weigh the pros and cons. At least that is what I do.
