CRENSHAW : Crenshaw Plaza to Mark Reopening
Crenshaw Plaza, one of the largest commercial sites that burned during the 1992 civil unrest, will hold a reopening celebration Saturday.
Festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the plaza, located at the southeast corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue.
The event will be hosted by Black Entertainment Television reporter Mary Majors and KCBS-TV news anchor Beverly Burke. Performers will include rhythm and blues artists Coming of Age, Five Star and Twin Force, the 1994 “Star Search†grand prize winners.
Gospel and inspirational music will be provided by the Hardwick Singers from Praises of Zion Baptist Church, the Praise Puppeteers and performers from the new hip-hop musical “The Gang’s New Threads.â€
“Children’s Square†will include free arts and crafts activities.
Prizes and food will be given away by many of the plaza’s 39 merchants.
